We all have our go-to spots for skiing and snowboarding. Most of us will purchase a season pass to one of the local or our favourite mountains around us and not venture out to other resorts. If you want some ideas on other beautiful terrains that others enjoy, continue reading to find out about some of our must-visit destinations for adventure enthusiasts and ski bums.
This one hits home for us - literally. Banff National Park is located right here in Alberta and is home to three world-class ski resorts. It’s Canada’s oldest national park and is located in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. Lake Louise is the first one that’s part of this national park which is our personal favorite, and if you go there you’ll probably see some of the Paradise Team on the slopes! Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay are the other two in this national park and are also awesome mountains to shred down on.
Val d’Isère is number two on our list for a few reasons. It is a ski resort in the French Alps, near the Italian border. It has to be one of the most beautiful French Ski resorts, nested in a valley at the foot of the mountains with its chocolate-box chalets and high-end hotels. The snow coverage tends to be one of the best in Europe and if you’re interested in a spring Europe trip this one shoulddefinitely be on the top of your list as they ski right until the beginning of May.
Located four hours from Denver, this iconic Colorado resort boasts four distinct mountains and a legendary ski culture. This resort is world-famous and offers some of the best skiing in the world. It’s a favourite for families as well due to its groomers and activities for kids! The best time to go is March with an average snowfall of 71 inches.
If you’re looking for a cultural experience, whilst being able to ski in deep, light powder snow then this place is for you. Niseko is a town located on Japan’s northern island prefecture of Hokkaido, 2 hours drive away from Sapporo - the largest city in Hokkaido. Niseko is famous for its open powder bowls, tree runs, and stunning views of Mt Yotei. There are four interlinked ski resorts in Niseko: Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and An’nupuri.

Another European destination, Verbier ski area is a high-altitude resort with challenging terrain - if you’re looking for something new, exciting, and wanting to test your skills then this resort is definitely for you. It is more on the expensive side, but with the superb skiing, high-quality accommodations and amazing bars and restaurants it’sdefinitely worth it. It’s also the perfect spot for the après-ski enthusiast, with a world-famous selection of lively bars and clubs.
Another resort putting Canada on the map, Blackcomb is known for its massive terrain, deep snow and world-class amenities. It is the largest ski resort in North America with 16 alpine bowls, 3 glaciers, world-class terrain parks and 200+ marked trails. It features a unique Peak 2 Peak Gondola for moving between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at the top.
Vail is one of the largest ski resorts in the world, located in Colorado. It’s a gateway for winter sports with 5,317 acres of skiable terrain and seven back bowls. This resort is a must for experienced skiers as more than half of their terrain is for advanced skiers. They also have a ski run that’s 6.44km long!Definitely, a must-visit if you want to experience some of North America’s amazing ski resorts.

We had to include another Switzerland destination on our list as the ski vibes and culture in Europe areabsolutely immaculate! Zermatthas a picturesque alpine setting, with extensive terrain and excellent snow conditions. The town is at an elevation of around 1,600m and lies below the iconic Matterhorn peak. They have a lively après-ski scene and lots of restaurants and bars for your off-mountain activities.
We hope that after reading our extensive list, you have found a few places that you might want to check out for your next ski destination. Remember that when you travel to places by airplane, the amount of carbon emitted is much greater compared to driving or taking the train. Often you can take a ski bus with your friends and get to the mountain in a much more eco-friendly way.
