Powder Day at Healy Pass

Yesterday's early season trip to Healy Pass covered over 18 km and close to a 900 m elevation gain. This enormous undertaking also happened to be Becky's first day in the backcountry. Adam, Brandon, and I were happy to guide, and surprisingly, Becky didn't complain at all.  We got off to a bit of a late start, but were determined to find some turns for Becky's big first day out. Setting off for Healy Pass on the recommendation of a friend, we snagged parking in Sunshine Village's back lot and set off. Bluebird Day at Lake Louise

Alex and I got off to an early start and as we headed west we could tell we were in for a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky as the sun hit the lightly dusted mountains. We were excited! I had been to Louise the previous week, but today was Alex's first ski day of the season.   Passes in hand, we headed straight for the backside in search of fresh snow. Right away we were blessed with some fresh lines, and continued finding powder pockets on the backside right until the end of the day. Lifts open today included Grizzly Gondola, Glacier, Top of the world (shut at noon), Paradise, and Ptarmigan.
